Anakin Skywalker later known as Darth Vader, is one of the most central characters in the Star Wars franchise. He was the secondary antagonist of the original Trilogy, serving as the secondary antagonist of A New Hope, the main antagonist of The Empire Strikes Back and the secondary antagonist of Return of the Jedi, where he redeems himself, and the protagonist of the prequel trilogy. Anakin was a legendary Force-sensitive who served the Galactic Republic as a Jedi Knight, and later served the Galactic Empire as the Sith Lord Darth Vader, the third and final apprentice of Emperor Palpatine. Born to Shmi Skywalker, later in life he became the secret husband of Padmé Amidala, the father of Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa, and the grandfather of Ben Solo.
